Project Padded
Background: As a result of a severe lack of access to sanitary pads, underprivileged girls around the world are often forced to miss school and chance the risk of infection when they are menstruating. Girls in rural areas often use rags, leaves and other materials that can create serious hygiene issues and lead to disease. This is a problem that we have the means to help eradicate. That’s why this season we areworking t help mitigate the problem.
Mission: Our aim is to produce at least 110* sustainable pad kits to distribute to grade school girls at a school named St Patrick's Kyamatheka Secondary School in order to help keep these girls in school. The school confirmed that there will be 110* girls enrolled this school year. The pad giving ceremony will be on May 6th, 2016.
*updated from 98 due to 12 transfers into the school
One sustainable pad starter kit contains:
1. A 5 day supply of sustainable pads comprising of 5x regular sized pads with removable inserts, 4x overnight pads and 3x light pads. This supply will last approximately 2 years.
2. Underwear
3. A bucket/basin
4. Laundry soap
5. Visual care instructions
6. A carrying case
The estimated cost per kit is $45
Vision: At least 110 more girls with access to sanitary pads. At least 110 more girls at a reduced risk of infection during their cycles. At least 110 more girls able to stay in school. At least 110 more of our future educators, health care providers, civil servants, and entrepreneurs etc. in a better space to create a better tomorrow.
Closing remarks:
The pad kit giving ceremony was held on May 6, 2016 at St Patrick's school. 110 pad kits were given out to the girls at St Patrick's Kyamatheka Secondary School in Makeni county, Kenya! The girls were very grateful for the kits.
Because of your support these girls can stay in school, are empowered, and are at a reduced risk of infection during their cycles. So as we close out this project, we'd like to say a HUGE thank you on behalf of project padded, the awesome girls at the school and the school, to all of you for your continuous support. All your donations, shares, positive energy and encouragement are very much appreciated. Without your help none of this would be possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
