starting a small business

The goal of this GoFundMe! project is to open a small business called Blooms and Beasts. Blooms and Beasts is a boutique, or short term, child care center. The space is in downtown Jeffersonville, IN, a growing community. It is within walking distance from a new pedestrian bridge that starts in Louisville, KY and spans the Ohio River.

Blooms and Beasts is a store front property where parents can leave their children in a small group, for two hour blocks of time. Adults can take advantage of downtown dining for lunch or dinner, get coffee, take a yoga or pottery class, exercise with friends, or run errands. Blooms and Beasts aims to nurture the parents while the children receive high quality child care in a safe and inviting environment.

Blooms and Beasts will offer birthday parties. Families may rent the space and supply their own cake and decorations. Or, they can hire Miranda to create a themed party with cake, games, and a special touch for the birthday girl/boy.

Parenting classes and workshops will be offered at Blooms and Beasts. Drawing on years of experience working with children and families, Miranda Griffin Todd will facilitate meaningful workshops for families. As parents are nurtured, they best nurture their children.

Miranda Griffin Todd, owner, has over 20 years of teaching experience. She has run her own in home child care center, facilitated parenting classes, and acted as a consultant to child care and after school programs. Miranda holds an undergraduate and graduate degree in Child Development. She is the single parent of two children, Emma, 9 and Jackson, 5. This child care format has been a dream of hers for over 15 years. She sees the family as needing support in order to best parent children. Additionally, she is in favor of creating business growth for the downtown community and local businesses.

Funds will be used for start up costs of creating the space (paint, furniture, materials for children), technology (computer, camera) and marketing costs. The goal is to get the doors open and bring the children into the space. Customers are already waiting an opening date, having expressed great enthusiasm for such a unique child care niche.
