Matt's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi friends and family, or for those that don't know me, my name is Shannon. In short, summer has been hell, and my dad needs help with medical bills and other expenses after a stint in the ICU, followed by a stay in a rehabilitation facility, due to cardiac arrest. Any contribution you can make is so much appreciated! At the very least, please share this. Thank you!
The long story: On July 17th my dad, Matt, went to the ER because he hadn't been feeling well, then fell and hit his head. He's on blood thinners due to a stroke, and the doctors wanted to check for hemorrhaging and transferred to Marshfield for a CT scan.
While waiting for the scan, my dad got up to use the bathroom and collapsed from cardiac arrest. The staff performed CPR for 7 minutes and got a pulse to return, but his heart stopped again and they had to continue CPR. He was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, where he was put under sedation and placed on a ventilator. The cardiac arrest caused so much stress that his liver and kidneys were not functioning, and he was put on a dialysis machine, as well as more IVs and medications than I've ever seen. The next few days were horrible, I was told his body likely would not recover, or if there was another heart episode he would not survive it. We grieved.
Then, after a few days, he made small improvements, some setbacks, then more improvements. After a week they took him out of sedation, and eventually I could talk to him again. His prognosis was guarded, but the staff was surprised he was alive. He was weak and couldn't move, in pain from broken ribs, but day by day be gained some strength.
Matt spent two weeks in the ICU, then transferred to a rehabilitation facility for the next two weeks where he received physical and occupational therapy. Then, one month after his cardiac arrest, he finally came home.
Happy to be alive, and happy to be home, but still recovering with a very damaged heart and kidneys. Now, not only does my dad have to worry about his health and recovery, but the bills are rolling in. Out of pocket expenses from the hospitals, new home safety/medical equipment, new walk-in shower, etc… Then, to top it off, Insurance denied most of his stay in rehab.
His family and friends are rallying and helping as much as we can, but we appreciate any additional support. Thank You!
