Hello my name is Amanda.
Nearly 3 years ago myself, my husband Mark and our youngest son Freddie followed our dream and moved from the UK to France, life was good and we settled in to a lovely community, enjoying helping at local events and socializing with friends and the community.
Mark is a generous, gentle, kind, loving husband, Dad and Grandad, always likes a laugh, always the life and soul of any party and his motto has always been live for today.
Unfortunately on 7th March this year Mark suffered a massive stoke, he had surgery to remove a blood clot from the main artery in his brain and spent 2 weeks in ICU, followed by a week on neurology before being moved to rehabilitation. The stroke affected his right side leaving him unable to walk, and he lost his speech.
All of the medical teams involved in Mark's ongoing recovery have been amazing and i will never be able to thank them enough, the ambulance team, surgeons, nurses and all the different therapists who are working with him have all been fantastic.
Life for Freddie and myself over the last 12 weeks hasn't been easy, the language barrier, the medical paper work, day to day living without Mark here and the regular visiting to the hospital, which is an hours drive, but thanks to our wonderful community we are getting through it.
Mark's recovery is still ongoing but unfortunately our house isn't suitable for him to return home. This is my reason for setting up this page as our other option would be a care home and we want to bring him home, we have a date of June 16th so we are running out of time.
Our plan is to make a building attached to our house a suitable space for Mark to continue his recovery, we have people who are more than willing to do the work for us but we need help for building materials like plaster board, concrete, wood, windows and doors, he needs space for his bed, a hoist, a wet room, grab handles to aide his mobility, a ramp for his wheelchair and a space to sit and enjoy the family time he misses so much.
As anyone who knows me you know i am not one to ask for help but on this occasion i am asking, if you could donate a little towards getting Mark home to the house he loves so much we would be so very grateful, thank you for reading.
Amanda
