Please help us save Bears leg

This feels increasingly hopeless and at times unachievable but I have to try…..

I’m Mel. I live in Tring with my son, George, and our four beloved dogs. Dogs are everything to us—if you know us, you’ll know they are our world .

I dedicate much of my time to helping animals. I foster orphaned wildlife for Tiggywinkles, carry out home checks to help others rescue dogs, and assist Dog Lost Herts whenever dogs go missing. I do everything I can for our furry friends. Now, I’m the one who needs help.

Bear is a working cocker spaniel, he is George’s dog, he is just 6. He’s the best dog we’ve ever had the priviledge of owning , I owe it to him , for his unending love and loyalty to fix this for him . It’s breaking our hearts.

Bear started limping about a week ago, so I took him to the vets. Bear has been diagnosed with a HIF (Humeral Intracondylar Fissue). If this is not treated immediately the elbow could fracture entirely which is highly complex and could result in Bear losing his leg. My vet has been incredible and over the last few days she has worked miracles and come up with ways of keeping the cost down. We had two quotes in excess of £5,000!

My heart is shattered. Back in September, my Dachshund suffered IVDD and required spinal surgery, leaving me with a bill in excess of £8,000. I’m still paying off thousands from that. Now I’ve been hit with an additional £4,000 bill for Bear’s treatment, and I don’t know where to turn.

I should add how important it is to carefully check the small print on insurance policies. I thought I had the best cover for all four of my dogs, but it turns out I don’t. My insurance will only cover £800 of Bear’s costs.

I’ll share all bills, receipts, and updates throughout this process, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
