Hello, my name is Alona Taylor. I am 26 years old and live in Lancaster, KY. Since I was a young child, I can remember not feeling right in my body. I couldn’t explain it then; however, when I became an adult, it was clear that my physical body wasn’t the gender I identify with. About 2 years ago, I saw my first doctor to start my transition. I’ve been taking testosterone since then. Last year, I had my first consultation to get my top surgery done, a surgery that would help me feel more comfortable in my body. I had everything ready, even my letter of recommendation for surgery from my therapist. Everything was going well until I found out my insurance no longer covers gender-affirming surgeries. This has had a huge impact on my mental and physical health.
I don’t come from a supportive family. I’m also the sole provider for my family of four. I make $13 an hour, and by the time I have all the bills paid, I have nothing left over to put towards surgery. I have tried applying for grants but have had no luck. So, I’ve broken down and made this GoFundMe. My top surgery could cost anywhere between $6,000 and $10,000. Next month, I go to a second consultation to get the exact quote. At that point, I will have approximately 6 months to get all the money together.
I am looking for anyone who can understand and would be willing to donate to me for my top surgery. Any amount at all could make a difference for me. I want to go ahead and say that I appreciate anyone who would be willing to help me. I just want to feel comfortable in my body.
Thank you.
