Skye’s Life Saving Surgery

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Amy and this is how my beautiful Skye, came to need life saving surgery.
She suddenly became ill the week of 08/10. The vets found a mass in her abdomen on the and by 12/10, she was referred to a local hospital with a CT scanner. Here they found the mass at the edge of her liver and after being reviewed by an external specialist/pathologist, it was believed it was benign.
On Monday 14th, she was referred to Swift, a specialist hospital - where a soft tissue vet, after some bloods, confirmed he could remove the mass! After, a nerve wracking 12 hour day, we got the call to say, she was out of surgery. The mass was fully removed with a 3cm margin. She stayed at the specialist for three days post surgery after they found she was sensitive to the pain medication; coming home on the Thursday (17/10).
Since then she has been recovering well and very eager to be back walking or playing with her sisters but is still on complete rest.
We had the results of the biopsy back and it was, in fact, a cancer (heptacellular carcinoma) However, according the specialist, they don't tend to behave aggressively in this form. The average survival time for this tumour is more than 1400 days in one study - with half of dogs living longer than this number. They also have a low rate of spreading to other areas (>8%) and re-currence at the surgical site (>6%).
Anyone who’s ever had a dog or any animal in their life will know the joy, love and healing powers of them. Like many others, Skye has saved me at my darkest moments so I had to do the same for her. She’s my best friend, my family and rock.
I’m not aiming to cover all the bill but as a young, self employed person, it has hit me quite hard so anything really helps.
