Jo's Journey and Fight Against Uterine Cancer
Donation protected

My sister Joanne Foley is the most loving, compassionate, generous and caring person I know. I have put together this GoFundMe page in support of her due to her recent diagnosis of uterine cancer.
Jo had already been off of work awaiting a date for the first of two ankle surgeries she needs to be able to walk normally and without excruciating pain. She finally got a date for her ankle fusion surgery that she had waited 20 months for, when her world was turned upside down with a devastating diagnosis of a very aggressive form of advanced stage 3 mixed-cell endometrial cancer. Following surgery and complications afterwards, further testing has revealed that the cancer has already metastasized to her lungs. She has been told at this time there is no cure. She is due to begin 6 rounds of chemotherapy treatments starting this week.
Jo is not the kind of person who is comfortable asking for help. She is used to helping others; that's what she does, that's who she is. She has spent more than 35 years working in the helping professions, including working with challenged students as an EPA. Joanne is a shining ray of light and love, always spreading joy and positivity to those lucky enough to know her. Everyone who knows Jo knows what a huge heart she possesses. She is a fierce protector of children and animals and is always there for family and friends, always giving of herself to others.
I am hoping that this fundraiser will allow Joanne to focus on her health without having to worry about the financial burdens that come with a diagnosis such as hers. Jo's husband Reg, the love of her life, is also on a fixed income and has multiple health issues of his own that he must deal with while also taking care of her. These funds will help to cover medical expenses, travel to and from tests, treatments and medical appointments at the QEII in Halifax as well as hopefully to allow her to purchase a scooter. Due to her mobility issues, she has not been able to independently go for a walk for over 2 years. One of the things that Jo most loves to do is to go outside with her sweet dog Ralphie to throw his ball in the yard or take him for walks in the neighbourhood. Insurance will only possibly cover a generic electric wheelchair which will not be suitable for outdoor use around her home. A scooter will allow her to get out of the house and spend more time outdoors and enjoy her independence again.
I am so grateful to everyone who is able to help my sister during her fight. Your prayers and contributions are truly appreciated, and please don't forget to spread the word and share this campaign with everyone you can! Thank you so much for your generosity.
