My name is Mike Fitzgerald, I am a husband and father of three young children and a medically retired combat Veteran. In February 2021, shortly after the birth of my third child I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasized to my omentum, liver, lung, diaphragm, and femur. The primary tumor in my large intestine was blocking 70% of the intestine. I went in for a twelve-hour HIPEC surgery that removed the blockage, placed an ostomy, and debulked as much of the cancer as possible. I then began a chemotherapy regiment of chemotherapy every other week for 42 cycles. After being stable for almost two years my most recent CT scan has shown progression in my left lung. The doctors feel that the chemotherapy is no longer effective at keeping the cancer in check. While we have been pursuing integrative therapies in conjunction with conventional therapy, we have determined that I need to try an additional therapy. This therapy has been successful in stabilizing others but unfortunately insurance does not cover this therapy. This has put us in a position where we need to ask for help funding this therapy. We thank you for taking the time to read this and we are grateful for any prayers or assistance you may be able to provide. I plan on being around to walk my 2-year-old daughter down the aisle. Any funds not used in my treatment will be passed on to others in need.
