For anyone that knows me, knows how important Apollo is to me. And for anyone who knows Apollo, knows how amazing of a cat he is. Unfortunately Apollo has had some serious health issues happen so abruptly.
I noticed Apollo had some difficult breathing, lethargy, and overall change of behavior. I eventually took him to a VCA emergency hospital on Thursday night (9/3). I was not expecting anything too serious, but received the call from the vet suspecting that Apollo might have heart failure. He had fluid around his lungs that needed to be removed, and he needed to be kept overnight to remove the fluid and to be put in a breathing tank. He also needed to see a cardiologist the following day, and the list of diagnostics and treatment was endless.
I was devastated to say the least. My heart completely torn. I had not been prepared for this type of news. To make matters worse, the vet had wrote up an estimate for his treatment, and the low end was $2900. Not only did I have to take in the news of my kitty, but I had to also pay a sum of money I financially was not stable for. The worry of having a sick pet to treat and having to make a high financial decision in such short moments notice has been very stressful.
For background, Apollo has Hyperthyroidism. I have been financially taking care of that prognosis for the past 2 years. With medications and blood work, it sums up. I had just taken Apollo to the vet about one month ago, and in turn received an expensive bill that I am still paying for.
Normally I would not ask for help from anyone. I am not that type of person and it is very hard for me to do this. However, I want to be able to give Apollo the best care I possibly can and in the end make sure he is comfortable with whatever new prognosis he is to receive. After he sees the cardiologist, I will have more information and there may be me more bills I have to take on because of further treatment. I will keep everyone updated as I receive more news.
