Dream To Give Back With Corina

People that know me say I am fiercely independent -asking for help is a really hard. Creative - visible in my bold outfits. I will tell you my secret: growing up poor and during communism rendered me terrified of pursuing my creativity. Terrified of making art - how will I pay my bills?
In the last quarter century, I had my own slipcover and drapery business while I put myself through college, graduated, worked on Wall Street, and taught middle school math for a decade. Thirteen years ago Ilinca joined my journey to guide me to my next level of awareness while I nourish her powerful spirit as a sole provider. Amazingly loving and supportive friends and mentors we now consider our chosen family joined us along the way. Their love and faith in us helped me shift to an inter-dependent life in community. It goes without saying that sometimes this single mom got overwhelmed by grown-up responsibilities and pressures to perform but still I found time to volunteer and assist young people with all aspects of growing up, from math to after-school homework help, to college application support, to applying for grants, to mindfulness coaching and even sewing. But no time for making art.
A lot of my experiences are the result of fortunate events of being at the right place, at the right time, with the right person. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I supplemented these opportunities by persistent hard work, and the courage to take a chance, afforded by the privilege of being born with white skin, able bodied, and in a family that insisted on education. But what good is all this if I just keep it to myself?
I am ready! Attending AS220 Practice//Practice residency is my first step in pursuing my creativity. After twenty-five years of living among the free, I am ready to pursue my creativity! To make art in community. To give back the knowledge and advantages gathered through these experiences. I want to create in a space where elders and youth live together intentionally and commit to mutual personal empowerment. Urgent now. Together, in community, we can manifest a new world. Won’t you join me by helping financially and sharing this link?
I am reaching out with humility and gratitude to my chosen family and community to ask them to help me raise funds towards my first creative pursuit. Help make my dream a reality. Thank you!
