Help Save Koda: Emergency Surgery Needed

My name is Myrissa, and I am humbly asking for support and aid from our community to help us save our beloved Koda. Koda is a beautiful, playful, and affectionate Border Collie/Aussie mix who is coming up on his first birthday in just a few months, and is a cherished member of our family. My two young boys call him their brother, and he is both an anchor and a beam of light in our family- lighting the hard and heavy days, and rooting us in boundless joy. He is my shadow. My comfort. And so very loved.

The day after Christmas, my husband and I had to help our cherished first pet cross the rainbow bridge. Luna had been a member of our family for 14 years, with Koda joining our family just last Spring. Koda loved Luna, and after her passing, he slowly lost interest in food and treats. I could sense something was off or wrong, and figured he was processing the loss of his constant companion, but he was still his loveable and playful self with normal energy, so we assumed that with time, all would be well. All of our worlds were rocked without the presence of our girl, Luna. We all needed time to heal, even Koda.

However, in the last few days, his condition worsened to the point that even kibble mixed with meat, broth, or yogurt was ignored. He began to stop drinking water, and then the late night vomiting and dry heaving began. Now realizing that he wasn't only suffering from depression and grief, I got him into the vet immediately.

After extensive testing and x-rays, it was discovered that Koda has a very large foreign body trapped within his stomach as well as a partial blockage in his intestine. His body was wracked with pain. His internal organs are inflamed, and his intestines are all being shoved to one side of his body. We were told that if he was a smaller breed, he would not survive this.

He required IV fluids, many medications, and the vet wanted to keep him at the hospital until tomorrow morning to be on the safe side. However, because he experienced such high stress and anxiety, she was worried it would worsen his condition and is sending him home with us until we can return tomorrow morning for emergency surgery, "Unless a miracle happens" as the vet said.

Given Luna's unexpected passing the day after Christmas, and coming out of the holiday season, an emergency like this comes with a cost that feels insurmountable. The visit today was over $800 alone. Any and all donations will be put directly towards the cost for life saving procedures, medications, and after care needed for our Koda boy.
