The Shaggy Dog Rescue Fest & 5K was founded in 2014 to raise funds and awareness for the Houston Shaggy Dog Rescue. The rescue is a non-profit animal welfare orginization dedicated to providing rescue services, vet care, foster care and adoptive placement for stray and abandoned dogs.
We adopted both of our dogs from Shaggy Dog Rescue and they are the loves of our lives. Because of them, we decided to join forces with other Shaggy Dog supporters and create this event in 2014.
We had great success for a first-time event last year but we were no where near the level of funds raised that we need to be in order to save many more dogs and get them off of the over-crowded streets and out of the high-kill shelters in our community. The average cost for a dog to come into the rescue costs a minimum of $500 per dog if they are in good health. However, the sad truth is that many of these dogs come in with heartworms or with other medical conditions that require serious treatment and can cost upwards of $1000.00 per dog. Shaggy Dog Rescue brings in 100's of dogs a year and it takes a lot of money to nurse these pups back to health.
We are setting up this page to help our fundraising efforts for the rescue and to take our fundraising to new heights. We realize that many of the resuce's supporters live across the United States or live close by but are unable to attend the Shaggy Dog Rescue Fest & 5K in April. We would love to have your support despite the fact that miles or time come between us. All funds raised will go to Shaggy Dog Rescue and to the pups that Kathy brings into the rescue.
It is our goal this year to be able to write a check for over $30,000 to the rescue. With your help we can make this happen. Every dollar helps and there is no such thing as too small of a donation.
