Hi, everyone.
I’m asking the community to come together to help support our beloved Django. He suddenly went into shock today after a normal morning which immediately raised alarm. At approximately 3:30pm today our boy was rushed into emergency surgery due to internal abdominal bleeding. The vet repeatedly warned us it was very likely he would not survive surgery. Despite everything we moved forward. He is a generally healthy and active dog! There have been no noticeable signs for concern. In fact, he seemed to have a little extra pep in his step the past few weeks. Needless to say, this all came as a major gut punch and we were prepared to give our guy a fighting chance.
I adopted Django from the Mojave shelter after moving out on my own for the first time as an adult. We seemed to have this magnetic attraction and immediately became inseparable. He’s been by my side at some of the best and worst moments of my life, from couch surfing to buying my first home. I was so proud to be able to provide him his own home where he could have all the space he wanted to run and play. He helped me feel real at times when it felt like I was utterly alone and would never be understood. There’s something special about the non-verbal bond shared between two kindred spirits, and that’s what we have. To watch him unable to hold himself upright, struggling to breathe, and unable to look me in the eye has been one of the most difficult experiences I’ve ever had to endure. He is not my dog, not my pet—he is my most special friend and a cherished member of my family.
The vet hospital quoted us anywhere between $6,000-$8,000. If you are interested in seeing a breakdown of the costs and what your generous donations will help cover, please see the update titled "VET BILL". It’s been a touch and go situation, but it would mean more than words could ever express to receive and feel the support of our friends, family, and community as we weather this excruciatingly difficult time. Donations, words of encouragement, an interesting fact you learned today… all are welcome. If we all hold a single pound of the weight of this pain and uncertainty, it might just be the tiniest bit more bearable. Sending warm hugs. Thank you.
