Support Global Intersex Voices in First-Ever Book Anthology!

Hi! I am Kimberly Zieselman, an internationally renowned intersex woman, human rights defender, and author from the United States. In 2020, I had the privilege of publishing my memoir, XOXY, to raise awareness about being intersex, to influence hearts and minds, and ultimately increase acceptance and decrease the shame, stigma, discrimination, and harm so many intersex people like myself experience throughout their lifetime. Over the last decade, I have increasingly been advocating for intersex human rights beyond the United States in support of some amazing and diverse intersex activists from every region of the world.

Today, I am incredibly excited to announce my new book project, tentatively titled Defending Bodies: Global Intersex Voices, to be published by PM Press. As editor, I will work closely with about twenty intersex human rights defenders from across the world to each share their individual personal intersex and advocacy stories. This is the first-ever book lifting authentic, diverse intersex activists' voices, aiming to not only raise visibility but also outrage about the human rights violations suffered. This book will serve as a call to action for increased understanding, allyship, and support for the burgeoning global intersex rights movement.

Additionally, two distinguished international intersex allies will be contributing to the book! Jessica Stern, former US Special Envoy for the advancement of LGBTIQ human rights, and current Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Carr Center for Human Rights, and co-founder of The Alliance for Diplomacy and Justice, will be authoring the Foreword. Victor Madrigal-Borloz, former United Nations Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, currently a senior visiting researcher at Harvard Law School and a distinguished visiting scholar at the Williams Institute at UCLA, will author the afterword.

So, why do I need your support?

I need your generous donation to raise money, specifically to be able to provide each intersex author a modest stipend for their contribution to the book. Unfortunately, the intersex rights movement is grossly underfunded. Many intersex activists do not get paid, or earn very little, to do the brave and emotionally draining advocacy they do each day. I want to acknowledge the privilege to publish my own intersex story, while doing what I can to support others to have their stories published.

Please consider contributing whatever you are able; every amount is greatly appreciated! XOXY, Kimberly
