Sweet Maddox
Donation protected
This GoFundMe is for Maddox and his sweet little family as they continue to support this incredible 5-year-old through his treatment of IPEX syndrome, which will include chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
IPEX syndrome is a rare genetic condition that affects 1 in 1.6 million and is characterized by multiple autoimmune dysfunctions. IPEX stands for immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy, and X-linked syndrome. If left untreated, this syndrome will be fatal within a few years.
Since he was 3, Maddox has undergone over 100 medical appointments, 8 separate hospitalizations, multiple treatments/ procedures/ IV infusions, in an attempt to treat his daily symptoms of tachycardia, hypertension, bloody diarrhea, rectal prolapse, eczema, failure to thrive, and sweatiness. Now, thanks to genetic testing his doctors know he has IPEX syndrome, he has a match for bone marrow transplant, and he has a team of 12 specialists planning his care.
Although he sees the inside of the hospital very frequently, this time his stay will be for 3-4 months while he receives, first chemotherapy, and then a bone marrow transplant. His family will have many costs during this challenging time that aren't covered by health care, including travel expenses to cover the 2 hour commute to and from the hospital, accommodation for them to stay nearby, parking, and extra daycare for Maddox's 2 year old sister Aimee.
Maddox is an outstanding, incredible little boy and a great big brother. He does as much as his body will let him but spends most of his time resting. Despite all he has taken on in his short time on earth, he continues to show how strong and resilient he is. I'm sure this next chapter of his journey will be no different.
I cannot even fully imagine the heartache, stress and sleepless nights Maddox's parents, Max and Alex, have endured in the past 2 years, and I know that having some extra funds to support them can help ease some of the stress of this situation. Please join me in supporting my friends during this trying time.
