We have a good friend who is struggling mentally, physically, and financially. When he was active duty, he suffered from traumatic paralysis of the diaphragm. He had emergency surgery. A month post-op, he developed a diaphragmatic hernia, which resulted in two additional emergency surgeries. He aspired to have a long military career, but it was cut short. He received an honorable discharge in 2022.
He now has daily pain—and pain with each breath. His abdominal muscles are weak from surgeries. He is physically frail and catches himself slumped over in chairs when not paying attention. He is not yet 30 but feels like he is 100. He struggles to work because of pain, fatigue, PTSD, insomnia, and nightmares. Due to the timing of events, he was not medically retired from the military. We are helping him apply for veteran benefits.
We are hoping to raise $50,000 to help with medical bills and debt related to his injuries.
In his own words: "I want to experience joy again. I have so much chronic pain and mental anguish due to my PTSD and personal trauma, that I question my existence every day. I don't want to kill myself, but I constantly question if I should continue this suffering. I cannot relate with any other humans due to the fact I feel so isolated within my own mind. All my relationships have been burned due to my own self-isolation. I feel so alone, weak, and defeated."
