I'm writing this story about a good person who has had something unjust happen to her. Her name is Marluz, she's a wife, a mother and a nurse. As you all know, the nursing field is hard, stressful but very rewarding. Marluz has held her Nursing license for 5 years, and has worked in California and in the state of Washington. I met Marluz when she was hired on as a nurse at the facility I worked in. First impression was, she's fiesty. As the days went by, I got to know her and she was by far one of the best nurses I ever worked with. She cares about her residents, she makes sure that everyone was cared for, went on their breaks, took their lunches even if she didn't. She's a hard worker and people who know her..know she will get the job done. Working in a nursing facility in the Memory Care unit, our residents have Dementia and require maximum assistance with every day activities such as, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and feeding. We have residents who are "fall risk" , and with that a member of the nursing staff is assigned to the resident.
Marluz assigned a nursing staff to keep an eye on said resident. Unfortunately the resident had a fall and an incident report had to be written up. There was no injury, but if something happens to a resident wether it be small or big, It must be documented to improve the Care Plan. Then the investigation by the State of Washington started to clear or find any wrong doings.
Months pass and she was cleared by the state of Washington for any wrong doing. She can breath now and go about doing what she loves, being a nurse.
One day out of the blue Adult Protective Services contacts her and ask to have an interview with her for further investigation. She was told by the supervisors and DNS that she was cleared of any wrong doings with the incident that occurred with the resident. So the call from APS, she thought was a scam. She thought why would they contact her outside of work and want to meet at Starbucks. Shouldn't it be with her supervisors at her place of employment? She asked APS to meet her at her workplace to discuss the case. Time went by and no contact was made.
Marluz, renewed her nursing license and her license had no "dings" in it. Everything was good regarding her Professional Nursing License.
In 2021 she had to do a routine background check, and there it was. She recieved a notice saying she is ineligible to work due to a report against her from APS. With that report, you can not work with vulnerable adults and children.
When that report came back, she was confused, scared and upset. She kept wondering what she did wrong. She eventually found out that it was from APS and her not meeting with them. She thought she was cleared. Cleared by the Washington state Board of Nursing and the facility she worked in. Apparently even if you're cleared from all of the above, the government agencies do not communicate with each other and they perform their own investigation. She thought it was a scam, but she did ask them to meet her at her facility and she heard nothing back from them.
Marluz:
"I was always told that if I was hardworking, honest and kept my nose clean that I would be able to achieve anything in life. I just want to continue my career as a nurse. I want to proceed on with my life."
I'm making this GoFundme to help her in her time of financial straits. She has been fighting this case in court and her attorney fees has been trippled what she can afford. She's been doing side line jobs to make ends meet but like everyone it's a struggle and she needs a little help.
If you are unable to donate any amount small or big we humbly ask if you can help us write a letter to our State Representatives so that this won't happen to another nurse or anyone in a similar predicament.
Nurses are needed especially in this pandemic we are all being affected by. We're on the Frontline and when something unjust happens, we are left feeling defeated because we can't do what we love doing. Helping people, our elderly, sick, children..everyone.
Marluz: " I just want my name cleared from the APS list, so that my family and I may live the American dream through hardworking and honesty. Thank You for your help!"
Thank you for reading. Anything and everything you do is appreciated. God Bless you and may your days be blessed.
