After a couple of months of feeling unusually tired and low on energy, Randy saw a Doctor and on March 8th it was confirmed he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). AML is a rapidly-producing blood cancer where the bone marrow makes a large number of abnormal blood cells. AML is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults. Thankfully there is some good news, Randy’s biopsy was negative for the 2 major leukemia mutations. Randy will begin induction chemotherapy Friday, March 10, 2023 and will be in the hospital for approximately 3-4 weeks. He will also have to do additional rounds of chemo after induction chemo. He is in great spirits and has gained some weight over the past week or so. Thus, with God’s goodness, he is in the best possible position right now.
Randy will receive treatment in Santa Clara, CA at Kaiser Homestead. Randy’s immune system won’t allow him to have visitors at this time. In the meantime, if you would like to send Randy messages, offer words of support or stay up to date with his progress, please visit https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/randygarciasr
