Wednesday, January 12th Salisbury City Animal Control and Wicomico County Animal Control responded to a call of dogs in an outdoor kennel making sounds the complainant had never heard before.
Upon arrival to the address, WCAC observed two dogs locked in a crate and one had been attacked. The owner of the dogs was on the property and cooperated with involved agencies.
The victim dog, named Baby, is currently in critical condition in our facility under the care of the Humane Society of Wicomico County's Shelter Veterinarian Dr. Jennifer Mahan and Vet Tech Hannah Peck. She has multiple puncture wounds and severe damage to her right front leg. Her wounds are severe but we are hopeful. If she is stabilized, she will need surgery to amputate her leg. If and when the time comes, she will be put up for adoption.
WCAC returned to the address with Wicomico County Sheriff's Department to investigate this incident. Both dogs are small unaltered females locked together in a small space. One was in heat which we believed caused the aggression. This was a terrible accident caused by negligence.
The second dog will be held in our custody for the duration of her 10 day bite quarantine. We have no further information at this time.
Any donation toward Baby's medical care will be graciously appreciated.
