We are all rallying behind Bruce Boren and his wife Martha as he is navigating his battle with cancer. In August, Bruce was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer on his liver. He was referred to a thoracic oncologist for treatment options. This wasn't the first round of cancer that Bruce had beat, and he is determined he is going to do it again.
Four days before his appointment with the oncologist, Bruce started experiencing seizures. After additional scanning was done, a 2cm metastatic lesion was located on the right frontal lobe of his brain. Bruce was still making jokes with his doctors and that is a perfect example of him in a nutshell. Bruce and Martha were told on August 19th, that the cancer had metastasized from the lungs, which was the original cancer he had beat. By the next scan on August 24th, the lesion on his brain had grown to 2.6x2cm. The doctors decided removing the brain tumor was the best route to go, and Bruce underwent the surgery on August 31 with amazing success. His recovery went as smooth as possible, and he was released to come home.
Bruce was now working on healing from surgery, and completing radiation on his brain, but he also had to go back to focus on the lesion on the liver. On Sept 22, Bruce and Martha were told that the mass on his liver had almost doubled in size in the last month. A treatment plan was put in place quickly as he was getting more short of breath and having a harder time keeping food down.
Bruce ended up having Myocarditis, because of the reaction to one of his medications. He also developed pneumonia. Thanks to a very quick thinking doctor, they caught this very rare reaction to the medication and changed treatments to give him some relief.
Since last week, Bruce has seen multiple doctors, been given multiple treatments and had a feeding tube placed. Martha said he is "giving them a run for their money", and he "has a heck of a lot going on." He is currently admitted in the hospital and going back and forth out of the ICU.
In addition to prayers, we are hoping to give Bruce and Martha something to fall back on. With him out of work, and Martha with him at the hospital, the expenses are adding up. Martha's traveling and meal expenses alone are growing at a rapid pace. If you are able, we would really appreciate donations to go towards these expenses and future ones that are to be expected. We would also appreciate you sharing this link with your friends and family to spread the word. There can never be too many prayers!! God Bless
