Pediatric Hand Surgery Mission 2025

HAND HELP, Inc.
Hand Help is led by a team of plastic surgery-trained and orthopaedic surgery-trained hand surgeons who travel to developing countries evaluating and performing surgery on children with congenital defects and traumatic deformities who otherwise have no access to hand surgery care. Hand Help's mission is tri-fold including surgical care, clinical education, and public health research, all of which are critical to the success of achieving hand surgery care around the globe.

OUR MISSION - Peru, 2024
After a 4-year pause due to COVID, there is a lot of work to be done! This year we will be traveling back to Peru March 8-18th to treat children, the parents of whom travel miles and miles across the country (and sometimes from other countries) to obtain surgical care for their kids. This trip will include a complete team of medical professionals including plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, nurses, interpreters, and hand therapists.

OUR SUCCESS
During our last mission, the Hand Help team screened and evaluated almost 150 patients in the hand surgery clinic, and we were able to perform nearly 70 surgeries on children, many of whom had waited years for a surgeon. With four years of backlog, we expect these numbers to double this year!

FUNDRAISING
Thanks to generous donors like you over the years, we are able to reach thousands of children who otherwise would never see a hand surgeon.

As a nonprofit organization, all members of our team are unpaid volunteers. We partner with local hospitals for operating room space and we provide all surgical equipment and supplies including instruments, medical devices, sutures, anesthesia, antibiotics, pain medications, bandages, and post-operative care at no charge to our patients or their families.
