My sweet, sweet little sister, Piper, was recently diagnosed with cancer, specifically Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She's just turned 13, is extremely strong, level-headed and is taking the news with a grace I truly never could have expected. Through conversations with her doctors (and by scouring the internet) we have found that for her age group, the estimated survival rate for this type of cancer looks good. We are going into her treatment feeling as positive as we can.
My gracious and giving parents are not ones to ask for help. Ever. But unfortunately, the costs of treatment are projected to be high and due to the aggressive side effects of the treatment, my mom will be spending a lot more time at home with Piper, and thus has to cut down on the hours she works drastically, if not, entirely. This is going to put an enormous financial strain on my parents, to say the least. My other sister Aubree and I are both in school full-time and are unable to help our parents out in the ways that we would like to. Though they absolutely did not ask me to do this (they asked the opposite, if I'm honest), I am reaching out to friends and family in an attempt to help them out in some small fraction.
If you have the means, the support would be appreciated in ways I truly cannot express. Our parents have worked so hard to give us everything they possibly can without a second thought. My ultimate goal is to gather up as much as I can to make this process as smooth as possible for them, and even more importantly, for Piper.
