Saving Coco

I’ve found the perfect home for Coco, but the family live far away and need help if they are taking this on.

On Sunday December 28th, a woman living in the Okanagan reached out to me privately about Coco. She was considering a foster & wanted more information on the dog. I was so confused as Coco had already been adopted.

Turns out the man we thought was perfect for Coco had already returned her (not Coco’s fault). Coco was BACK WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNER! The one who locked her up and neglected/abused her!!

I felt sick to my stomach. I stayed up all night crying.

The woman who reached out to me does have experience with anxious working breeds (her dog was similar to Coco); but was extremely hesitant as she just lost her fur baby on December 10th after what was supposed to be a life saving surgery. Their family went into debt ($10,000 right before Christmas) and they are still grieving the loss of their boy.

I begged her to take Coco. We spent the better part of the next two days in communication. Messages, texts, phone calls. She kept saying she couldn’t adopt Coco because of the expense. I told her I would do what I could to help her, including a Go Fund Me to help with Coco’s food, vet, medication for her skin & anxiety and a couple of 1-1 training sessions.

Anyone who knows me knows I would never ask if anything! I’m usually the one reaching out to help others. But this time I'm asking for help. If anyone out there could make even a small donation to this cause I would forever be grateful. This dog has changed my life and touched my heart so much! She deserves to live out the best years of her life now. Please.

You may be thinking I’m crazy to do this for a stranger. I’m not. I’m doing this for Coco. And it also turns that this woman (who would prefer to stay anonymous here) & I are quickly becoming good friends. After talking with her, it honestly feels like she is my soul sister! (We’ve already made summer plans - which means Coco will still be a part of our family’s life too!)

Despite being worried about the cost, and jumping back in with a dog that requires a lot of time, energy and attention (just like the boy she lost), she is driving to the Coast tomorrow morning to adopt (not foster) Coco. I even told her I would pay her gas to get to the Coast to save our Coco! (Foster would be more affordable but that is extremely complicated for many reasons - and not possible now).

I want to help with food and start up costs like vet bills, Coco’s medications (skin, allergies, anxiety) and some training sessions. Even a little will help while the family pays off their previous vet bills so they can fully care for Coco.

I will be holding the money and e-transfer when Coco is in her care and seeing vet, trainer etc.

I know it all sounds like a lot to ask - especially right after Christmas, but her main reason for her hesitation is that she can’t afford this dog right now - and I truly believe in my heart that Coco needs her.

I will post updates on Coco as we go!! Please help my sweet Coco!!

Message me privately for more information about the new dog mom and the situation in general. It’s complicated to say the least, but she’s doing everything she can to help save Coco and so are we!
