Hey everyone, on February 27th, at 9:25pm my beloved mother in law passed away. Ricki was such a kind and beautiful soul. To know her was to love her. In 2018 she was first diagnosed with Kidney cancer, had her kidney removed (curative surgery) and after 1.5 yrs she was in COMPLETE remission However, that joy would be short lived. In October 2021, while back in her home state of Washington, she began not feeling well, leading her to go to the hospital. That’s when we found out what no one wants to hear. “It’s back” after multiple tests & scans it was confirmed that her cancer had come back with a vengeance. Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma with metastasis.
It was then she decided to come back to South Carolina to be with her husband, son, myself, and her grandchildren. Due to the type and aggressiveness of her cancer chemo and radiation were not an option. We were told that the cancer is terminal and our only options were to start a bio-immune treatment to try to slow down the progression or do no treatment and enter palliative care. She began her bio-immune treatments in November and continued them until January 27th. On January 27th it was determined that the infusions were not helping (symptomatically) and for her to enjoy her remaining time comfortably we made the decision, as a family, to transition her into Home Hospice. Bill, her husband, took amazing care of her every need along with managing quite a bit of medications.
After approximately 3 weeks in home hospice - in which her family from Washington was able to come out and visit thankfully - on February 22nd we transitioned Ricki into the inpatient Hospice facility due to her having a difficult time taking her medications. Once in the facility she was able to receive IV medications to help keep her comfortable, ultimately receiving a continuous infusion via IV.
Unfortunately, Ricki did not have life insurance. And unfortunately due to the demanding schedule/costs of treatments, hospital visits, etc. some bills have fallen behind. I started this page to help potentially relieve any financial stress of this incredible loss. Money/bills should be the last thing one should worry about during such a difficult time. If you are able to donate, please please consider. All funds will be given to Bill, Ricki’s husband.
Services will be announced at a later time.
