One year ago today, Joe fell 3 stories, crushing his spinal cord and leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He was taken to Baylor Hospital where he underwent extensive surgeries to stabilize the spine and other broken bones. After three surgeries, Joe stayed in the ICU for two weeks before being moved to a rehab facility where he spent the next 2 months.
The expenses continue once a SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) patient goes home - daily medical supplies and prescriptions, multiple doctor visits of which Joe is dependent on others to drive him to and from, physical therapy three times a week, home modifications wheelchairs and assistant devices and more. Nerve pain prevents him from attending some sessions and his physical medicine doctor has no other remedies for controlling the nerve pain. Therefore, Joe has explored cutting edge treatments which are not covered by insurance.

After four months of laser and light treatments and going to a chiropractic every week, he has some relief from the intense stabbing and depleting nerve pain, but it is still too much to be able to live an independent life or work.
Joe has a long road ahead of him but with lots of support, prayers, love, encouragement and hours of rehab, we are optimistic he will have a favorable recovery, despite being told by doctors at the time of the accident, that he would never walk again. Joe continues to show strength, strong willpower, courage and determination. Despite this tragic situation, he has managed to maintain his sense of humor.

The financial implications that follow such an injury are tremendous and the Grimshaw family can use some help. Please help ease the financial burden so they are able to solely focus on assisting Joe with his recovery.
So, as he continues his journey to get his life back, I ask your help to alleviate the cost of home modifications, medical expenses and medical equipment in whatever you can give. No gift is too small. Your donation and your prayers are sincerely appreciated.
