Jaxsons medical expenses

As most of you know our beautiful son Jaxson was born about 7 weeks ago filling our hearts and home with warmth and love. At about 2 weeks old we had to make the choice of putting him on formula and that is where this story begins!

After a week of trying our first formula Jaxson started having tummy troubles, we spoke to his doctor and switched to a soy base formula ruling out a possible dairy intolerance. A few days later he started acting strange and having concerning symptoms..... vomiting, fever, lethargic, constipation and very unhappy. We called his pediatrician and we were advised to go to the Childrens hospital here in Hawaii. Shortly after arriving we were told it is standard practice to test for meningitis. We left the room as they performed a spinal tap and ran many test. They did an x-ray to check for a bowel blockage. After coming back to the room we were told we would be admitted to the hospital. During this stay Jaxson was cleared of meningitis and a bowel blockage we then had to figure out what the cause for his symptoms were. We fought to speak with a GI specialist who provided no helpful information and told us there would be no follow up needed. Then we spoke to a nutritionist who told us to just wait it out and let his body adjust. We left the hospital after several days of frustration with no answers or change in condition

A few days later we met with his doctor and agreed we should change things up, try a new formula ( with broken down proteins ), start miralax, do weight checks every few days, and start acid reflux medication. We did yet another X-ray to rule out a bowel blockage. The first few days it seemed like we were finally making progress .Jaxson seemed to be on an uphill climb. He then started to have a few issues again but nothing like before, at this point we were doing weight checks at least 2x a week to make sure he was growing okay. His doctor at every visit told us his weight was either stable or increasing. Shortly after this Jake had to leave for training on a different island with an expected return of 30 days. A few days after Jake leaving I called his doctor with a few of the same concerns we were having. His doctor and I had a long conversation on the phone and I told him I feel like I have a lot of anxiety around Jaxsons health. He insured me that I could call about any concerns I am having and come in.

Well Jaxson started to go down hill fast..... over sleeping, constant crying while awake, trying to chew on everything, vomiting up every bottle, soft spot sunk in, eyes sunk in, pale, and still not having bowel movements. So we scheduled an appointment the following day. After his weight check the doctor came in and said I am very concerned about Jaxsons weight ( it had only been 5 days sense his last weight check and everything was fine .) He then referred us to a speech pathologist to watch his swallowing. The following day we arrive at her office and she took one look at his chart ( which I had not seen up until this point ) and said " why are you in my office right now and not admitted at the hospital." My heart sank and anger set in. Jaxson had dropped from the 15th percentile to the 1 percentile, he had dropped almost 2 whole pounds which would be 20% of his weight from May 9th to June 1st. How was something so detrimental to my sons health just missed, and not cared about?? She made several phone calls and advised me to go home and pack a hospital bag and to come back to be admitted again.

I then started the process of trying to get Jake home to be here with us. The boys were arriving the next day and I knew we were going to be in the hospital for several days. I was not leaving that hospital until I had some answers or until Jaxsons condition was stable. He was admitted for being malnourished and dehydrated. His doctor had not been actually watching his weight and chalked it up to me being an anxious parent ( something I told him out of confidence .) We are now fighting to get him back to a healthy weight!

This is the part where we ask for help! While at the hospital Jaxson was given an NG tube for feeding, very expensive formula, and new meds. These are all things we have to continue at home for an undetermined amount of time. Unfortunately, the medical expenses, gas, food, supplies, plane ticket to get Jake home, and insurance costs have really put us in a financial hard spot. Jake and I do not live beyond our means and we try our best to spend as little as possible however we just don't have the income to sustain the medical expenses.

We still don't have a cause for his issues but we do have a solution to help!

I want nothing more than to have my healthy and happy baby back! My heart aches knowing how horrible the last several weeks of life have been for him.
Thank you for your time and consideration in helping us! Every penny counts right now!
