Dan's medical expenses

Donation protected
As many may know Dan Bailey was an avid Giants and 49er fan. He was a carpenter by trade and was heavily involved in several softball leagues, which was the highlight of his life, along with his faithful companion JD (his dog).

Dan suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in April and spent 2 months in John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. In June he was transferred to a skilled nursing facility in San Pablo where he was getting physical, occupational & speech therapy, which was covered by the VA. Dan was a military policeman in the Army for a period of time, stationed at the Presidio in S.F. While we are grateful for some VA coverage, they apparently only cover 30 days & he is now on Medi-Cal only, which does not cover any therapy. He was still improving at the time therapy ceased. While we know therapy is not forever, it is incomprehensible to think there is no help for someone who is still improving during such a critical time. We are looking into “private pay” therapy to see if we can get him to maximum improvement. He is currently able to walk some distance with a walker (with guarded assistance), requires help transferring to wheelchair, is now able to eat regular foods, and has improved movement on the right side. Speech & memory are a little difficult - with finding the right words he wants to say. COVID has made this even more difficult, as we have not been able to visit him during this time, other than occasional FaceTime calls. He has come so far, but has a long road ahead of him - he still requires much help & assistance. His belongings have been moved to a storage facility near family, and JD (his dog) is being taken care of by Diane, his sister.
Expenses include therapy, legal fees, storage costs etc.

Our hope & prayer is that Dan is able to live more independently and someday be reunited with JD.

We appreciate all the the love, support, and prayers that have come from so many during this difficult time.
