Hello,
My name is Madison and I am here to speak about my mother, Jennifer. If you have the pleasure of knowing my mom you know the kind of person she is, selfless, kind, silly, caring, and generous. Through her I have been taught a love of learning, cooking, baking, swimming, and now as I age, the art of 'getting warm' before you dunk in the ocean. My mom is my guiding light and my best friend, and now she needs help.
In 2021 after my aunt was diagnosed with cancer due to genetic mutations, my mother was urged to receive genetic testing to see if the genes her sister had also lived inside of her genetic code as well. Seeing as my grandmother had stage 4 cancer (and beat its ass) and now her sister had been affected, my mom got to work. The results showed two gene mutations that made her much, much more likely to develop cancer. The preventative care started quickly, lucky to be in the best place in the US for cancer research and treatment development. (Fun fact: chemotherapy was invented in Massachusetts!)
First came the appointments, then her first surgery, a full hysterectomy that my mom powered through like a champion. She suffered the testing over and over, more frequent than you could image, all to ensure that she was as healthy as she could be. After this, she began dating. What should have been something to uplift her and give her joy quickly turned sour through abuse. Physical, emotional, mental, and financial abuse. For two years my mother was forcibly isolated from every person in her life that cared about her, even me. Gaslit and assaulted, my mom still fought. Tried to keep up with her treatments like the survivor and fighter she is.
She made attempts to work, only to be punished for it with unimaginable cruelty. The car she bought outright was destroyed, leaving her stranded. The money she earned was taken from her, leaving her helpless. Finally, this past May, after two successive attempts on her life, she could finally be free. Her abuser is behind bars, awaiting trial and we were left to pick up the pieces. Finally, I had my mother back but the good news was not coming.
During her relationship her health was deemed unimportant, she wasn't 'really' getting sick. That man knew she had to depend on him and rescheduled appointments, made her leave early, and flat out told her doctors to ignore questionable nodules on her lung. You can probably guess where this is going, come June with her first appointment with me as her escort once again.
Cancer.
My mother who was eager to work again, to get her life back as anyone would be, received the worst possible news you can get. Lung cancer. In less than a month she was in an operating room, chunks of her lung sectioned out while I waited. Now, we are left with the aftermath of everything that's happened and rising bills for her treatments, a lack of a car to get us anywhere dependably, and no way for my mother to work as she now prepares for a double mastectomy procedure. We're awaiting pathology, every day living in fear and uncertainty, and I try as much as I can to bring her a bit of joy and happiness to cut through the stress.
With your help, we can begin to rebuild a healthy life for her. The money donated would be used to buy a cheap car to get us to the hospitals and back, support my mother until she can work again, and ensure we don't lose our housing. I know my mom, she won't ever ask for help because she wants to be brave and try to do it all herself. We can't do this alone, she can't do this alone. Your help would mean everything to us, whether it be a donation, a share, a prayer, or just some kind words to let her know she's not alone. Anything you can give I am eternally grateful for. Please help me help her after she's spent my whole life doing everything for me.
Please help me save my whole world.
Thank you,
Madison.
