Long Road To Recovery
Donation protected
Hello all, my name is Tracy Bessette. My sister's Dana Vandiver, Kelly Sykora and myself are putting this fundraiser together for our sister Corey Bequette, her husband Steve and their daughter Amelia. On November 23 our niece was in her bathroom at home and fainted, fell and busted her chin. She was taken to the hospital to have stitches put in. While at the hospital, the Doctor was laying her bed back to start doing the stitches when she started to feel light headed and sick. The Doctor thought that was odd and ordered a CT scan. That's was when she was diagnosed as having hydrocephalus (to much water on the brain). The Doctor told them to go to Children's Hospital. Well, they took her straight there and scheduled an MRI which showed that Amelia had a brain tumor and will be scheduled for brain surgery.
They placed a fluid drain in her skull the same day.
This was a Thursday, and surgery was scheduled for Monday 11/29 at 9am. The Doctor told Corey and Steve that the surgery will last about 6 to 8 hours. Monday comes and they put the surgery off for a couple of hours due to a mix up with scheduling. So she goes into surgery at 1:30pm and is there until after midnight.
A very long day for Corey and Steve. And for every one that loves Amelia. We had several hundred people praying for our sweet girl. She made it through surgery, now onto healing. She was in ICU for 17 days. She has made it.
Got the fluid drain out on 12/9, moved to a regular room on 12/10, and came home on 12/11. She has a long road to recovery.
Diagnosed as having a Pilocytic Astrocytoma. Which is a rare benign brain tumor.
Corey and Steve are inundated with medical bills. Their insurance is only covering 80%. And hospital, Doctors, Surgeons, and therapy bills all come separately. So that means thousands and thousands of dollars out of Corey and Steve's pocket. Please try to donate to help out. I know they would for any one of you. If you can't do it before Christmas, then please do so in the coming weeks after Christmas. I know many of you have sent gifts to Amelia, but all this money will be used to help pay her medical bills. Any money left after all the bills are paid for, will be donated to Children's Hospital, to help other families struggling.
