Coming Together 4 Lucy Quix

Donation protected
When I met Lucy in 2007 she was a strong independent mother of 4 beautiful children doing an amazing job juggling work and raising her children. Life was never easy for Lucy, not that you would ever hear her complain, but after losing a brother in a car accident and having another brother with an acquired brain injury also from a car accident she could be forgiven for thinking life was unfair.

Life as a parent also presented its fair share of challenges for Lucy with two of her four children suffering with epilepsy and another with mild cerebral palsy, to say she knew the staff at the Royal Children's Hospital well would be an understatement! Again though, you would never hear her complain and certainly she wouldn't have changed a thing. Simply put, she is an amazing woman.

You would be forgiven for thinking this is where the story ends; unfortunately, it's where Lucy's real battle begins. Lucy was involved in a car accident in 2010, the result of which has been an ongoing list of medical conditions and surgeries. Following the accident Lucy has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, nerve damage and damage to her legs requiring surgery on both knees (the left one twice), paralysis of her left side (which has worsened over time), loss of half vision in her right eye, rapid spinal deterioration and traumatic brain injury. In addition, Lucy has been fitted with a Pacemaker to treat her neurocardiogenic syncope (fainting episodes), and a PEG to help her maintain her nutrition as the years of medication and nerve damage has left her unable to consume enough food naturally. Throughout all the trauma and health issues, Lucy has remained a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration for everyone who has had the privilege of knowing her.

It hasn't all been bad news though, during this time Lucy met a wonderful man named Mark, who, through tragic circumstances of his own, was left a widower with 3 beautiful kids. The pair was married in January 2013 and have created a strong family that support and love each other. But recently this tight knit family has had the added pressure of Lucy not being able to return home, and this is where we can help.

Lucy is currently stuck in a geriatric ward in hospital unable to return home until carers and house renovations are funded by the TAC, not to mention the large bills Lucy has been left with from purchasing mobility aids and vehicles to help Lucy get around.

We are getting together on the 27th of September to have a fundraising event to raise some of the money the family needs, but with the knowledge of how hard it can be for to be at the event, this page was created to allow those that can't be there the opportunity to contribute. So if you can, please show your support to Lucy, no matter how large or small, every little bit helps
