Qani recovery expenses: Lapu-Lapu tragedy

Donation protected
This gofundme is administered by Igor Gomes a close relation to Qani’s family. Effectively releasing the burden of Qani’s mother to set up an account or Qani to use her deadname. Down below is a prompt written by Qani.

My name is Qani and I am recovering from being hospitalized from the Lapu Lapu Tragedy. I live in Bella Bella and travelled to Vancouver for what should have been a 48hr trip to celebrate the decolonial festival with my kinship. Sadly, I was at the tragic event that led to numerous victims’ death and injuries. While my
life was spared, I was seriously injured and have no memory of it happening
to me.

So, instead of my weekend trip I am spending a few weeks to a couple months in the lower mainland recovering from:
- Broken arm near my shoulder
- Broken ribs
- Concerns of concussion
- Bruised ribs and lung
- Severe bruises on my back & shoulder
- A small broken bone in my face
- Minor damage to my spine

My recovery has been overwhelmingly supported by my kinship network of family and community. I’ve had endless outreach and visitors that I can’t keep up with in order to focus on the next steps of my
recovery. I know folks want to continue supporting me so I’ve decided to make this go fund me as one option that facilitates financial support.

With the funds, I will distribute it mostly to my family who have been my day-to-day care givers. My work insurance and ICBC claim will replace my income up to 90% for short term disability during my recovery time so my pay check will only be slightly disrupted. My mom on the other hand is taking unpaid time off work to take care of me. I will be staying with her after being discharged while I need to remain in the city for occupational therapy. We are participating in the food train & accepting offers of delivery from kinship. Although my family is still adding up costs for the expense of my care IE, time off work, gas, food, clothes for me etc & any remaining funds could greatly reduce the burden of potential return flights from Bella Bella in the event I need more rehabilitation.

I’ve successfully had the one possible surgery on my broken arm so the rest of my healing journey is the physical, mental, spiritual & emotional recovery from my injuries.

T’oyaksiy’nism thank you all for your support & care.
