Please help the Velazquez family

My friend and Carrboro High School junior, Nancy Velazquez, is in need of emergency eye surgery to repair a detached retina. Not being able to afford uninsured medical expenses, Nancy has already waited too long. Knowing she will lose her vision if not repaired, her family is forced to proceed with the surgery regardless of the financial threat.

My dad had the same surgery so I know how important it is that her retina is repaired immediately. The choice between housing, food, and health was not a decision my family faced, and either should Nancy’s. Nancy should fear her surgery, not hunger and homelessness due to her medical emergency. I am hoping our community will step up to help the Velazquezes. Her surgery is at Duke Hospital Monday morning.
