I'm raising money for my cousin, Jill, who was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 3, Triple Negative Breast Cancer on February 18th, 2025, just 7 months after her annual mammogram was clear. Since the beginning of March, she has been through 15 rounds of chemo. 3 of these rounds were Doxorubicin, also nicknamed “the red devil” due to the horrible side effects and toll they take on your body. She will have 6 additional months of an oral chemotherapy as well as immunotherapy in the new year after recovering from reconstructive surgery scheduled for mid-November.
At the end of June, she was rushed to the emergency room due to extreme shortness of breath and was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. She spent the next week in the hospital and was prescribed blood thinners, an addition to the already extensive list of medications associated with her treatment. The chemo has also led to an extensive list of side effects including extreme brain fog, often referred to as "chemo brain” and a significant loss of muscle mass. These difficulties led her to take a leave of absence from her job while she works to regain strength and get back to her normal self.
Prior to her diagnosis, Jill worked 7 days a week—she worked her full-time job, she worked part-time as an in-home caregiver, and she volunteered for a TNR organization fostering kittens in her free hours. She is a single homeowner in Wilmington, NC with her 3 purr babies, Charlie, Emma Jane, and Grayson. She is solely responsible for her house upkeep and yard maintenance, which she has been unable to do due to the loss of muscle mass and the toll of multiple chemo treatments.
In September, she underwent a double mastectomy. A month later, she was hospitalized for multiple days after almost a week of vomiting including multiple days of vomiting blood. In November, she will have reconstructive surgery, which she is hopeful will be her last surgery. She will have 6 months of an oral chemotherapy in the new year after recovering from her reconstruction surgery. She has also started weekly physical therapy to help regain her strength and independence. She is incredibly eager to get back to work and her normal life again.
Due to the unexpected health complications, severe side effects and circumstances she is facing, we're asking for any help you are able to provide. The funds will help cover the never ending bills and medical costs associated with homeownership and battling breast cancer. If you are unable to donate at this time, please continue to send well wishes and keep her in your prayers.
