Last winter, our father, Barry Hatt, contracted pneumonia. After enduring several weeks of coughing and prescriptions, he overcame his illness.
Though Barry was feeling better, doctors were concerned about the residual symptoms. A precautionary CT scan was ordered to identify possible complications. The first scan showed a growth in his left lung, which was thought to be scar tissue from the pneumonia.
Two subsequent scans revealed that the growth had not enlarged; however, some lymph nodes had grown. This eventually led to the oncologist diagnosing Barry (66) with stage 4 cancer.
Barry is a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his wife Louise, his 6 children, and his 3 grandchildren (with a fourth on the way). The news of stage 4 cancer has been a shock to everyone that knows him.
Stage 4 cancer is the final stage of cancer, and treatment options are limited. Oncologists offer chemotherapy and radiation as options; however, there is no guarantee that these treatments will help and they are likely to reduce Barry’s quality of life. Our family wants to ensure that all treatment options are considered, including those not covered by the health care system. These treatments can be expensive, and many will require Barry to travel outside of his hometown of Fredericton.
Our goal is to raise money to help cover some of these additional expenses so that Barry can focus his time on his recovery and be with his family.
Please keep Barry and Louise in your thoughts and prayers.
We thank you all so much and truly appreciate your support during this difficult time.
