Here is Monica’s story:
Monica is 36 years old, which is younger than the age they typically have you go in for mammograms. She had never had a mammogram before even though her mother had breast cancer at the age of 62. They said that since her mother had cancer later in life, Monica would not be affected by this and didn't need to be checked earlier than normal.
Monica had been feeling a sore lump on her chest for a couple months, but it was always worse after a workout or heavy lifting. She kept thinking it was a sore muscle because no where did she see/read that breast cancer symptoms were painful. After a couple weeks of complaining, Ben (her husband) told her that she should have it checked out to ease her mind. Monica made an appointment with her OB/GYN who thought it felt like fibrous tissue but scheduled her for a mammo.
On Tuesday, Feb. 16th, Monica went and had a mammo done which didn't show anything concerning. They knew the spot was there because they could feel it, so they did a sonogram. While looking at the sonogram, the doctor said that the edges of the spot looked a little irregular to her which was a concern and asked if Monica knew she had a swollen lymph node under her armpit. Monica was unaware of the swollen lymph node. But, Monica did know after looking at that screen and not even being tested yet, she had breast cancer.
On Wednesday, Feb. 17th, Monica went back and had a biopsy done on the lump, and the next day she got the call that it was cancer.
Reading through the diagnosis, Monica now knows that God made that spot painful for her because He knew she was stubborn and wouldn't get it checked. It was His pressure on that spot that hopefully will make this an early stage and treatable cancer.
At this point, we know that it is at Stage 2. Many more medical tests are currently being conducted to determine the full diagnosis and treatment plan.
Monica had to leave her job to focus on the aggressive treatment of this disease.
Monica and her family will be greatly appreciative of any level of donation provided.
All funds donated will be used for the various expenses accrued during this challenging time.
God bless,
Team Monica
