Help Support Mike Bailey as He Fights Lung Cancer
Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits. Mike is currently fighting lung cancer, and what began as a planned surgery to remove the cancer has taken an unexpected and devastating turn. During the procedure, serious complications arose, leaving him in critical condition and on life support. He is no longer in critical condition, but continues to be on a ventilator. He has been moved to a rehabilitation hospital, and has many weeks of therapy ahead of him to wean him from the ventilator as well as help him relearn basic things such as swallowing, talking, and walking again. After that he will move on to treatment for his cancer.
This has been an overwhelming and emotional time for our family. Watching someone we love fight to breathe, to heal, and to simply stay with us is something we never could have prepared for. For him, the life he once knew may never be the same. We are holding tightly to faith and hope as we remain by his side during this uncertain journey.
Why We’re Asking for Help
At this time, this fundraiser is to help cover living expenses during Mike’s recovery. Mike is unable to work, and I will need to remain in Grand Rapids to care for him and be by his side as he heals.
With his income impacted, everyday expenses such as housing costs, utilities, groceries, transportation, and basic necessities are becoming increasingly difficult to manage. This unimaginable turn of events is something that could have never be planned for. It's amazing that one catastrophic illness can wipe out savings as well as retirement funds in the blink of an eye. This fundraiser is meant to help ease that financial strain so the focus can remain on Mike’s recovery and on supporting one another through this difficult season.
