100 Miles for Mendiburu

100 Mile Run for Mendiburu Magic Foundation

Show your support for the Mendiburu Magic Foundation as I run 100 miles through Bakersfield, CA to raise awareness and funds for this awesome organization.

I am a local ultra runner who runs races anywhere from 50km to 100 miles. I ran my first 100 miler in 2011 in Arizona and I'm looking to do it again, but this time in my hometown and in support of the Mendiburu Magic Foundation.

Over a year ago, a former student of mine developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Guillain-Barre is a rare autoimmune disorder that damages the nerves, weakens muscles, and causes the body to shut down. The disorder made if difficult for her to perform basic everyday functions. She spent several months in the hospital recovering, but eventually gained strength to walk again and is now doing many things on her own. With financial and emotional support through Mendiburu Magic Foundation, the student and her family were able to overcome the many hardships during those difficult times. Through my 100 mile journey I hope to bring attention to the organization and to the support that they provide for our community's children and their families.

Lend your support by donating. You can also come out to cheer and/or run (any distance) through the streets of Bakersfield with me on Saturday, November 23rd. I will be updating my progress and location throughout the day. More details to follow.

Mendiburu Magic Foundation (MMF) was founded in 2000, as a 501 c3 non-profit organization, in honor of Nancy Ann Mendiburu. MMF responds to the unmet needs of local children and their families that may be facing cancer and/or other catastrophic or life threatening illness.

In the year 2009 MMF was slightly restructured by Brian and Valerie Mendiburu, so as to more effectively accomplish these worthy tasks and continue turning ideas into action! The organization's leadership team is comprised of five Executive Trustees, a Governing Board of Directors, and Community Advisory Council chaired by Dr. Larry Reider.
