Help Dwight recover

Anyone who knows my brother, David, and his wife, Samantha, know how much Dwight means to them. David and Samantha adopted Dwight at 3 months, even though they had their eye on him for quite some time. They just couldn’t resist his cute angry brows, and knew they had to pay respect to Dwight from their favorite show, The Office. Since the beginning, Dwight was showered with love. David and Samantha taught him how to play, how to be potty trained, and how to interact with other dogs. Dwight was always a happy go lucky puppy, stealing everyone’s hearts as he met them. He even has his own Instagram @dwight_the_cocker_spaniel
David and Samantha just got married this past year and have their own place for the first time. They moved from New York to Pennsylvania so that they could save money for a home. They were so excited to start their new life with their baby puppy! It was supposed to be the most exciting time of their life starting their lives in a new state.

Dwight is now an 8 month old puppy and has always been in great health. David and Samantha had him updated on all his shots and took him to the vet when needed. They did not think to buy pet insurance as he was in such great health. Little did they know the nightmare that would begin from just walking Dwight in a nature preserve by their apartment.

Last week, Dwight began vomiting and not eating his food. He also had diarrhea. The vet did not have an Appointment for another four days, so they waited. The next day, Dwight was just not eating, so my brother took him to the emergency hospital expecting to hear that he had some sort of stomach virus or had something stuck in his digestive tract. They were shocked to hear that Dwight’s kidneys were FIVE TIMES the size they should be—they were the size of a Great Danes kidneys! For reference, Dwight is a tiny cocker spaniel that weighs 20 pounds. After an overnight stay and a bunch of tests, the vets found that Dwight had contracted leptospirosis. Leptospirosis in dogs is a bacterial infection that spreads through the bloodstream. Dogs can get leptospirosis from puddles or bodies of water that carry urine from infected wildlife. The bacteria infiltrate a dog’s body by burrowing into their skin. It can be deadly and life threatening.

Dwight already has damaged kidneys. His levels have gone down significantly, but they are starting to rise again and David and Samantha are losing hope. The veterinary bill is already at around $10,000 as Dwight has stayed in the hospital for a week now receiving round the clock treatment.

Any bit of a donation can help them financially, and also help Dwight continue the care that he needs to recuperate. We are praying every day that he will pull through and could use your support. He is a little love and you should totally check out his Instagram. You’ll fall even more in love with him and understand why David and Samantha are so desperate to do whatever it takes to help him survive.
Thank you so much!
