On October 2, Arleen and Bob King-Lovelace found themselves in a nightmare that no one ever anticipates as they watched their home of over 40 years burn down. Thankfully, they survived and the rest of their farm was largely unharmed, but they need our help.
Brighton Farm, their home, has played an incredibly important role in the lives of so many people: their neighbors, the foster children they opened their lives to, the many apprentices who worked the farm for a summer and ended up staying for months after the end of the season, family members, close friends, new friends and more. It’s a place of calm, consistent love with unmatched views of the stars and hands-down the best eggs on the entire East Coast. While it’s heartbreaking to think that house is gone, one realizes that it was only the structure supporting the true heart of the farm: Arleen and Bob. They filled the space with creativity, imagination and love, from Arleen's handmade stained glass windows and decades of photographs to Bob's sheet music. Many of these things can never be replaced, but we hope to help them recover or reimagine as much as possible.
If you’ve been personally touched by their incredible spirits, have spent time on the farm, or even just want to support two amazing people, please consider giving any amount of money to help them navigate the coming challenges as they recover from this enormous loss.
With much love and gratitude,
Their family and friends
