My name is Vivian, I'm 29 years old, and I am having urgent surgery early this January. I had a hip resurfacing done due to idiopathic avascular necrosis (a bone disease that caused my hip to die) about 5 years ago. The implants used were supposed to last around 25 years; however, they have failed after 4. I am suffering from a condition called metallosis. This condition is poisoning my blood with cobalt and chromium toxicity, and I require revision surgery with a total hip replacement. I will be off work for anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks as a result. I may be approved for short-term disability, but my income will be minimal. The out-of-pocket cost of my surgery will be $3,100. I have very little in savings and will need help with living expenses as well during this time.
