Hi everyone,
My name is Amy, and I’m fundraising for my beloved dog, Cali, who urgently needs life-saving reconstruction surgery.
A few weeks ago, our world was turned completely upside down. Cali was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis — a rare, aggressive bacterial infection sometimes called a “flesh-eating disease.” Despite rapid emergency care, the infection moved so fast that she ultimately lost her entire nose, leaving her with a painful open wound that cannot heal without surgical reconstruction.
A Month of Hospital Visits & Complications
For the past month, we have been driving to UC Davis Veterinary Medical Hospital twice a week, hoping for answers and healing. The team there has been extraordinary, but Cali’s case is so rare that multiple biopsies, cultures, and advanced tests have still revealed very little about how the infection started or why it progressed the way it did.
On top of everything else, Cali has experienced extra complications with her IV ports, leading to additional inflammation and fear that the infection could spread. Every visit has been filled with both hope and worry — hoping for improvement, and worrying that something could take a turn for the worse.
This Surgery Is Not Cosmetic — It’s Vital
Cali’s reconstruction is not a cosmetic procedure. Without it, she will continue to be at risk of infection, difficulty breathing, and chronic pain. The surgery is essential to:
Close and protect the open wound
Reconstruct the tissue that was lost
Reduce infection risk
Give her the chance to breathe, eat, and live normally again
This isn’t just about repairing damage — it’s about restoring her chance at a safe, functional, and comfortable life.
What the Funds Will Cover
We’re trying to raise $10,000, which will help pay for:
Specialized reconstructive surgery
Hospitalization and anesthesia
Post-operative wound care and medications
Follow-up visits at UC Davis
Management of IV-related complications
Who Cali Is
Cali is the sweetest, most gentle soul — Even through pain, she continues to show her resilient spirit. When she goes outside to do her business, she still wants to run and bark at the Amazon truck! She has endured so much, yet she still greets us with love and trust.
How You Can Help
If you’re able, please consider donating. Truly, any amount helps — even $5 brings us closer to getting Cali the care she urgently needs. Sharing this campaign is also an enormous help.
Thank you for taking the time to read Cali’s story. Thank you for caring. And thank you for helping give her a real chance at healing and living the life she deserves.
With gratitude,
Amy, Nathan & Cali
