On Tuesday August 27 my dad went to the hospital for throat pain. After hours in the hospital, they did a cat scan, the results were nothing we expected. With inadequate knowledge at the hospital, they discharged him, and sent him to the ent. We were so excited, but quickly had the wind knocked out of our sail. When the doctor said he was 90% sure it was cancer, the color just flooded from our faces. This was not part of the plan. He had surgery scheduled for 2 days later so we could get definitive answers. He went the next day for his pre-op consultation, and was told they could not do the surgery because he did not have insurance, unless he paid upfront for it. He had to pay out of pocket $3,000. He basically had to deplete his bank account so he could live. We know he has a long road ahead of him with chemo and radiation, from a health stand point, and now he has to worry about the financial aspect of it all too. If even we could get $1 of help from each person we know it would help him more than you could imagine. He is currently in surgery, and today we will know more. As a small business owner his business is definitely going to take a hit due to the many medical procedures he has in front of him. He has way too many worries on his plate right now and financial responsibilities for his treatments to live should not be one of them. Please pray every single day for him.
update— After the biopsy came back it was confirmed stage 2/3 (official pathology report will be more specific of stage), squamous cell carcinoma. We have to start treatment for him ASAP. We have to have him here. I cannot lose my dad.
