Shower to the People

Detraibile fiscalmente
HELP RESTORE DIGNITY TO THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST.

Shower to the People started when Jake Austin found himself frustrated while volunteering at a hygiene table with a church group who was serving the homeless. On that day, Jake was excited that he had expensive bottles of shampoo to give away to those in need. And yet he became embarrassed only to realize that shampoo without a shower is useless no matter how expensive it is.

So Jake came up with the idea for a shower truck to serve people living on the streets. From there an old box truck was donated and others came forward to help convert the truck into a mobile vehicle with a shower inside.

Jake went to the streets and the word quickly got out. People living in abandoned buildings came forth, looking for a place to take a shower. Jake then realized something else—as they emerged from a hot shower, they were transformed.  Their dignity and self-worth were restored, along with a renewed sense of hope to face a new day, and new possibilities.

Jake’s dream had come to life. He could now offer his friends on the street expensive shampoo, hot water, soap, a shave, haircut, and a respite from their everyday world.

A year ago, a video depicting the story of Jake and his shower truck was posted on the internet—and quickly received over a 160 million views (the original video with 160MM views is unfortunately no longer on YouTube)Jake began receiving a flood of phone calls and emails from interested individuals, corporations, and even celebrities wanting to help.

Jake evaluated the many offers but ultimately chose to work with a well-known, global corporation representing several brand-name products. He did so because of the promises that were made—large donations, STTP soap and shampoo with profits benefiting the charity, plans for expansion, and more.

Jake politely walked away from all the other offers and began working with representatives of the corporation on plans to help STTP serve thousands more in need. Suddenly after 16 months of promises, the corporation decided to abandon the project, leaving Jake and STTP in a much worse off place financially.

Today Jake is trying to rebound, but it’s difficult. He’s lost all of the previous momentum that came from the 160 million views, and his shower truck is in need of repairs. As someone who lives below the poverty line himself, Jake is in a dire financial situation and is dangerously close to having to shut STTP down for good.

Which is why we’re asking for your help.

Help us right this wrong by getting Jake back on his feet doing the one thing he loves most—giving a little bit of humanity back to the people in our society who need it most.

(Our goal will allow Jake to give his truck some much-needed repairs, and buy him time to look for a new corporate partner and additional funding.)
