At 30 years old, our friend Cory Guinn is facing the reality of a colorectal cancer diagnosis.
Jillian Sherman Guinn and Cory met in 2015 and started dating in 2016. They met at Barton College where Cory was working in the athletic department’s media team. Jillian was still a student at Barton. Through their very good friend Lauren, they went out on a blind date (once Jillian had graduated) and as they say, the rest is history! After 18 months of dating they got engaged and one year ago they said, “I DO”!
They celebrated their one-year anniversary on December 15th. Unfortunately, one month later, they got a new perspective on “in sickness and in health”.
They received news that Cory has a malignant tumor in his GI system and he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Cory will receive treatments including scans, chemotherapy, radiation and surgery at Duke Cancer Center.
Cory will undergo four months of chemotherapy, five weeks of radiation, as well as surgery. Ultimately, they will commute to and from Duke for chemotherapy and expect to spend six weeks in Durham for radiation treatment.
Cory and Jillian are faced with out-of-pocket expenses not covered by their insurance including travel expenses, prescriptions, therapy, copay and loss of income. Any funds you contribute to this GoFundMe will go directly to these expenses.
In Jillian’s words, “despite the ups and downs, we have seen God’s hand and presence and are confident we do not walk alone. We are grateful for all your prayers.”
Please prayerfully consider how you can help Cory and Jillian through this difficult time.
