Tony’s Journey

Hey my name is Jordyn and today I met a man named Tony whose story really resonated with me. I witnessed Tony attempting to cross a busy street, having multiple failed attempts. As I got closer to him I realized he was blind (due to stick in this hand). I immediately parked my car and proceeded to help Tony cross the road. In doing so, I discovered that Tony was facing more struggles than just not being able to cross the road. Not only was he 100% blind, but he educated me on the lack of support he receives from the state and public transits. The devices Tony uses to support him throughout his day-to-day life have wear-and-tear, due to Tony’s frequent use of them. Although Tony could have gone on a guilt trip and continuously complained he didn’t. He openly expressed his gratitude for my willingness to help. The thing that Tony wants help with the most is replacing his “Victor Reader” device. A device that plays as a handheld media player to visually impaired people. Tony’s Victor Reader is currently being held together by tape and hasn’t been replaced because it retails at around $550, which he doesn’t have at the moment. I am bringing awareness to Tony’s story because he could use the support. Rather that be spiritually, financially, or just genuine concern for his needs. Tony has no children, but he does have a wife who also lives with being 100% blind. With the help of you all, Tony will be able to get a new Victor Reader, making the journey more manageable.
