Laying my Dad to Rest
Donation protected
Hi everyone. On July 5th, 2024, my dad Blair Buttitta passed due to a Fentanyl overdose. He was found unconscious with no shoes on outside of a local business in Phoenix, Arizona. He was taken to the hospital where he then passed.
My dad will be remembered for his quick witted humor, charisma, musical talent, mastery of Judo, and his adventurous spirit. He was also a star soccer player, earning him the nickname “Banana Kick Blair.” In addition to those traits, my dad was so strong. But the strongest can only hold on for so long. My dad had a horrific childhood being physically abused by his father. It got so bad that my dad suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the abuse, and was hospitalized when he was a teen.
This trauma led my dad down a decades long battle with heroin and opioid addiction. Doing whatever he could to numb the pain. That battle cost him multiple relationships in his life, including me, his daughter. The last time I hugged my dad was when I was 10 years old. If only I realized that would be the last time for both of us.
My dad and I had a strained relationship due to his addiction, and it only got worse upon the passing of his brother, Brett Buttitta. My uncle Brett also coped with his traumatic childhood through drug use, leading to his premature death. My dad couldn’t recover from this, leading him into an addictive spiral, which led him to dealing, landing him in and out of prison and homeless for the past few years.
After his mom/my Nani, Juliet Massey, passed in April of this year, I knew he wouldn’t be able to handle the pain. He lost his anchor, and ultimately, lost himself.
I’m his only child, and the last surviving member of his family, meaning I’m taking on all of the responsibilities associated with his passing. The funds raised here will go towards his cremation and the shipping of his remains, his memorial, travel costs associated with flying to Florida for his memorial, and the time ill be taking off of work to tend to it all.
Please donate whatever you can. I can’t thank you enough for your support during this time. Dad will be so dearly missed, and I’m glad that his spirit can finally know peace. “Fly on, Little Wing.”❤️☮️️
