On the morning of August 20th, Marcus LaBonte woke up into a sudden cardiac arrest, fell off the bed and was unresponsive. His girlfriend Nicole performed CPR until paramedics arrived. They shocked him and got his heart beating again & they rushed him to the ER. He was still unconscious and was put in ICU. They kept him in a medically induced coma so his body could cool down & to give his brain the chance to reboot.

On the morning of August 22nd, the doctors did a head & chest scan. They found signs of a disturbance in the back of his head on the right side. They said they don’t know if it occurred before or after the incident. Later that morning they took him off the sedating medicine & he finally opened his eyes. They started doing reflex tests on him & they were all successful. They did have to sedate him again at one point, but later that afternoon, he was finally awake!

Now he is still awake, speaking & completely conscious. But, he’s not out of the weeds yet. He will have to continue staying at the hospital for more tests to find out what caused his heart to stop & for rehabilitation. 

Needless to say, Marcus isn’t working right now & won’t be able to return to work for quite sometime. Like many of us struggling to make ends meet because of Covid-19, Marcus & Nicole had been working check to check & shift to shift before all of this. On top of not having money coming in from work, Marcus doesn’t have insurance & all of this is going be very expensive.
