GC DECA to ICDC in Nashville

Hello Potential Donor!
We are the Global Connections DECA Chapter from Global Connections High School in SeaTac, Washington. Through DECA, our students develop business skills in a wide range of marketing and business situations. We apply what we learn in the classroom to compete at the three levels of competitions DECA offers; from the local Area Competition, then the State Competition and finally the International Competition (ICDC).
Through their hard work and dedication, three students from our Global Connections High School DECA Chapter have qualified to attend the International DECA Competition to compete in the Learn and Earn Project event. This year’s ICDC event is hosted in Nashville, TN.
Though the students worked extremely hard to make it to this level of competition; there is one daunting obstacle to overcome--funding the trip. The costs remaining for our three students to represent our chapter is $4,125. The price tag for this experience is approximately $1,375 per student; which is nearly impossible for the students to afford, since most of our students come from low income backgrounds. As a matter of fact, our school has an 80% free or reduced lunch rate, 88% of our students are minorities, and 46% of our city’s households are bilingual, indicating how diverse we are as a community.
Those who are heading to International Competition are not solely relying on donations such as these; they also work part-time jobs and organize other fundraisers as a means to generate enough funds to finance the trip.
We are excited to share that Alaska Airlines donated round trip tickets for our students to attend ICDC. This reduced our fundraising need by approximately $3000! Additionally, through a partnership with AT&T, the registration costs are covered, too! We wish to thank Alaska Airlines and AT&T who have invested in our students!
However, we still have to raise $1,775 by April 14 to fund our accommodations, and another $2,350 for our ground transportation, luggage fees, meals, and incidental expenses.
If we are fortunate to fundraise over our goal; (or we happen to not raise enough to go to this year's competition); be assured that remaining funds will be used for next year's travel costs to DECA competitions.
Although the money needed is a large obstacle on the way to International Competition, this does not deter our students. They are excited to compete in Nashville to represent our community in the best way they can. They know this is a once in a lifetime experience and funding it is the last piece of the puzzle to make this dream into a reality.
