Hello, my name is Bettie Canon . My daughter Naomi was raised on horses & has had a passion for horses her entire life. As an adult Naomi continued on with this passion by purchasing her own heard to teach her children to love the ride & the values that country life brings . Naomi's life was spent on our family ranch, riding trails, the back yard, and as an adult spending nearly everyday riding on her free time.
On September 10, 2021, I received the call no parent wants to receive, she was in a serious horse accident and being transported to a trauma center in Denver, CO. to save her life. Naomi was loading a horse and as all us horse people know how unpredictable horses can be, she became caught in a rope when one of her horses spoked. Her hand was crushed, she had a partial amputation on her pinky, a total amputation of her ring finger, severing two major arteries, and other injuries to her left hand. After six-hours of surgery and blood transfusion doctors were able to repair her hand and reattach both her fingers. As of November 29, 2021, it ad been determined that no progress was being made internally, and she underwent a second surgery. On December 1, 2021 she was diagnosed with Rare Staphylococcus, Staphylococcus aures, Methicillin (MRSA)A, and anemia. Both infections are antibiotic resistant and the doctors are working with a cocktail of antibiotics they hope will treat it, so the bone will begin to heal. The injury has halted Naomi's life. She has been relocated back to NM to recover with family as not only the injury, but the complications have made it where she needs in home care and a support system for her basic needs. Doctors have told her she needs several more surgeries and an additional twelve months of recovery time.
Naomi is unable to work to support her medical care/expenses & her basic daily needs, placing a major financial strain on her. She has been separated her from her children during this healing process which is extremely difficult for her. Those kids are her life. I am asking for donations from our friends and family to help cover medical & travel expenses for the commute to Denver, so she is able to continue with her medical team.
